Our plans bill for authenticated API calls to public endpoints. Other providers may count tax-calculation requests, saved transactions, orders, or a combination. The examples below show what each provider bills for, so you can compare the endpoints and services you would use.
What appears on the invoice
We bill for each authenticated API call to a public endpoint. Other providers may price calculation requests, saved transactions, orders, returns, registrations, or support separately. Add the services you plan to use to your estimate.

Worked example: 10,000 API calls in a month
On our API, 10,000 authenticated API calls to public endpoints fit in Launch. The plan is $29 per month and includes 15,000 API calls, whether they request calculations, check coverage, save transactions, make adjustments, or submit batches.
On TaxJar, 10,000 calculation or rate-lookup calls count as 1,000 order units. The current Professional 1K tier is listed at $499 per month. Compared with Launch at $29 per month, TaxJar is $470 higher per month. These plans include different services. TaxJar has announced a price change for October 1, 2026.
On Stripe, 10,000 Calculation API calls cost $500 at $0.05 each. Transaction API pricing works differently. One thousand Transaction API calls cost $500 and include up to 10,000 calculation calls. Ten thousand transactions would cost $5,000 at $0.50 each, with up to ten calculation calls included in each transaction.
On Quaderno, the Business plan lists 10,000 API calls and 1,000 transactions for €/$99 per month. It fits this example only if both counts stay within those limits. Avalara and Numeral do not publish an API-only price to compare here. TaxCloud includes API access in Premium, with plan and filing choices affecting the total.

These providers count different actions and include different services. The table compares published prices for the stated usage, not identical endpoint sets.
Scale the estimate to your own usage
Use at least one recent month of actual usage. Count public API calls and saved transactions separately, then add the services your team would keep or buy. At 100,000 authenticated API calls to public endpoints, our Scale plan estimate is $136.50: $99 for the first 75,000 calls and $37.50 for the next 25,000. The plan page also lists a $736.50 maximum monthly charge.
- For our API, count each authenticated API call to a public endpoint once. A batch submission counts once; processing its items adds no calls. Dashboard and worker requests are not billed.
- Convert TaxJar calculation and rate-lookup calls to order units at 0.1 order per call, then check the account’s tier and price date.
- For Stripe, count Calculation API calls separately from Transaction API calls. Group calculations by the transaction record that uses them.
- For Quaderno, estimate both transactions and API calls. The plan allowance must cover both.
- Ask Avalara, Numeral, and TaxCloud for a written quote that shows API access, transaction, filing, and support fees on separate lines.
Include reporting and filing in the comparison
A low calculation price does not include registrations, returns, or reporting unless the plan says so. A bundled provider may cost more because the quote includes work your team would otherwise handle. Decide which jobs belong in the estimate, then compare the yearly total and the hours required to operate each setup.
